Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration at Riverside Church
You are invited to participate in Realizing the Dream, the second annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day celebration, 4 pm on Sunday, January 14, in the Sanctuary at Riverside Church (Riverside Drive between 120th and 122nd Streets; enter at 91 Claremont Avenue). The event will include music, readings and reflections on Dr. King's vision, and how we can join together in the effort to make his vision a reality.
Mimi Alperin Nominated as AJC National Board of Governors Chair
We are delighted to inform you that Mimi Alperin, a long-time leader of national AJC and the New York Chapter, has been nominated as chair of the National Board of Governors, and will be elected at the National Annual Meeting in May. Mimi brings years of experience to this position, has been national chair of Program and Policy, Contemporary Jewish Life, Domestic Policy and Interreligious Affairs, and is currently the chair of Public Affairs.
New York Chapter to Expand Its Professional Staff
We are delighted to inform you that our Chapter has received permission to hire a director of leadership and development – the only chapter that will expand its professional staff in 2007. If you know someone who would be a worthy candidate for the position, let us know. The job description is as follows:
The New York Chapter of the American Jewish Committee is seeking a professional to develop and implement a major gifts and leadership development program, working with Chapter lay leaders and professionals to:
- grow the Chapter annual campaign by helping to secure fund raising honorees and developing, and involving Chapter leaders in, a major gifts campaign;
- identify and recruit influential and emerging Jewish communal leaders who can help enhance the Chapter's visibility and impact;
- cultivate existing and new chapter leaders, working with the program professionals to integrate them into chapter committees and activities;
- develop and implement a communications plan to publicize the Chapter to leaders we aspire to attract.
Major gifts and leadership development experience required; outstanding leadership, organizational, communication and marketing skills essential; ability to work with a team of lay leaders and professional colleagues a must.
February Board Meeting Rescheduled
Due to a scheduling conflict, the next meeting of the New York Chapter Board of Directors will be held on February 21, not February 6 as previously announced. Cocktails will begin at 5:30 PM, and the meeting will begin at 6:00. Please RSVP to vargasw@ajc.org .
