NY Chapter Joins Sikh Coalition to Support Religious Freedom
The NY Chapter Board of Directors responded affirmatively to the request made by the Sikh Coalition to support two bills they are initiating in the City Council- the New York City Workplace Religious Freedom Restoration Act and the Backlash Mitigation Bill.  City Council Member David Weprin is the main sponsor of the two bills and almost 40 diverse organizations have endorsed them.  AJC is an ardent supporter of enhancing the freedom of religious expression in the workplace.  In addition to joining the list of endorsers, AJC will testify at Council hearings and work with the Coalition to generate Council and community support.

We have scheduled a meeting with David Weprin for February 26 at 3:00 pm, to discuss the bills, along with other issues.  Please contact us if you would like to participate.

Take Action Now: Free Shoaib Choudhury
Visit AJC's online Advocacy Center and join the campaign urging your representatives in Washington to support a resolution to obtain freedom for Bangladeshi journalist Shoaib Choudhury, who faces trial for his work as an outspoken critic of radical Islamic forces and call for friendly relations with Christians, Jews, and Israel. The postponed trial is set to resume in late February.

New TV Series on AJC
A series of television programs on AJC are airing on a public access cable channel in Miami, and on Time Warner in Manhattan. The series, which includes separate interviews with David Harris, Jason Isaacson, Richard Foltin and other senior AJC staff, as well as a segment on Project Interchange, was created and produced by Suzanne Lasky Gerard and Felice Traktman, Miami Chapter members with extensive professional TV experience. The programs can be viewed in Manhattan on channel 34 on February 13 at 6 PM and February 18 at 10:30 AM. Plans are underway to make them available in other cities across the country, as well as to post segments on the AJC website.
