Diplomatic Outreach Committee Holds Meetings on Iran
The diplomatic outreach committee is holding a series of small diplomatic meetings at the United Nations to discuss Security Council Resolution 1737, which calls on Iran to suspend without further delay “all enrichment-related and reprocessing activities, including research and development” and “work on heavy water-related projects, including the construction of a research reactor moderated by heavy water.” Iran has already denounced the resolution as illegal and indicated that it has no intention of complying. The AJC delegations are encouraging support for implementing sanctions against Iran, both those prescribed by 1737 once the 60-day compliance deadline has passed, and others that countries may take independently of the Security Council resolution. AJC has met with South Korea and Switzerland and has upcoming meetings with Belgium and Germany.

AJC’s Mideast Briefing: Exploring the Saudi Push for Regional Stability
A major Saudi contribution to the stabilization of Palestinian society is a good thing,” says Eran Lerman, director of AJC’s Israel/Middle East Office, in his weekly analysis. Lerman notes Saudi intervention may be an attempt to eliminate ties between Hamas and Iran, especially because of Iran’s growing power in the region. READ ANALYSIS.
Challenging Executive Branch Spending on Religion
AJC filed an amicus brief with the U.S. Supreme Court supporting the right of taxpayers to challenge presidential spending that violates their religious liberties. The case, Hein v. Freedom From Religion Foundation, will decide the scope of taxpayer ability to contest not only legislative but executive branch expenditures, such as the work of the Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives.
