Israel

The American Jewish Committee is deeply committed to Israel’s future.  We stand in solidarity with Israelis in opposition to terrorism.  We support a two-state solution, one that guarantees the enduring security of the Jewish State of Israel, and provides political rights and dignity for the Palestinian people in a viable, independent democratic state.  We oppose the singling out of Israel for censure as discriminatory and at odds with efforts for peace.  Many of our programs focus on educating the community around us about Israel, its importance to the Jewish people, and how to best support its efforts for peace and security in the Middle East.

Diplomatic Outreach

In the New York Chapter, we have a strong Diplomatic Outreach program, building relationships with both the UN and consular communities.  In the recent past, we have focused on the anti-Israel bias at the UN, support for Israel during the war with Hezbollah, and countering the threat of a nuclear Iran. These issues are discussed in bilateral meetings with countries around the world such as the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Poland and South Korea.

Presbyterian-Jewish Dialogue

Since 2004, the New York Chapter and Auburn Theological Seminary have co-sponsored a Presbyterian-Jewish dialogue group to increase mutual understanding of the place of Israel in the respective faith traditions. Originally created in response to the decision by the Presbyterian Church (USA) to consider selective, phased divestment from companies doing business in Israel,  the group is now exploring ways that Christians and Jews can work together to promote coexistence in the region.
