Dr. Diane Steinman - Executive Director

Diane Steinman has been director of the New York Chapter of the American Jewish Committee since 1989.  Under her leadership, the Chapter has developed its diplomatic outreach program, public policy initiatives to promote civil rights and social justice, programs to strengthen intra-Jewish relations, and efforts to promote interreligious and interethnic cooperation and tolerance. She has been honored by the borough president of Manhattan and the Brooklyn district attorney for her work to enhance intergroup understanding.

 

Dr. Steinman began her career at the American Jewish committee in 1981 as the director of the Colorado Chapter and in 1985 moved on to direct the Boston Chapter.  Prior to joining the staff of AJC, Dr. Steinman was a professor of philosophy at the University of Colorado at Boulder.

 

Linda Senat – Director of International Relations

Linda Senat directs the diplomatic outreach program, which builds relationships with the UN and consular communities in order to better understand diplomats’ perspectives and positions on important international issues and create a framework for dialogue about critical Jewish concerns, including Israel and anti-Semitism. 

 

Prior to joining AJC, she was with Deloitte & Touche in NY, working with companies expanding their activities internationally.  As an international tax attorney, Ms. Senat focused on international business expansion and development.  She has represented blue chip private corporations and consultancies and has broad international experience advising foreign governments on foreign investment legislation.   She was also Executive Director of a European NGO, working with transition economy countries to modify their institutions and legislation.  She brings to her work at AJC an understanding of and an ability to bridge diverse cultures, practices and attitudes.

 

Hilary Cohen Singer – Assistant Director

Hilary Cohen is Assistant Director of the New York Chapter.  Her work focuses on the domestic side of AJC’s agenda, reaching out to other ethnic and religious groups and enhancing Jewish communal life.  She is also responsible for chapter communications.  Prior to joining AJC, she worked to promote interfaith and intercultural understanding among high school students through the study of primary texts.  She is a recent graduate of NYU’s joint MPA-MA program in non-profit management and Jewish studies and holds undergraduate degrees from Columbia University in political science and the Jewish Theological Seminary in modern Jewish studies.
